This piece, forged through hammering, mimics the form of a traditional Korean gong and captures an emotion called “won” and “han” in Korean, or the mixed feelings of sorrow and resentment born from the long history of suffering endured by the Korean people. The rough, echoing sound of the gong, reminiscent of the powerful, strained voices of traditional Korean singers, appears to stir our national consciousness, which is why I selected this as the marker stone.

This stone, characterized by its smooth and rounded shape, is so inherently beautiful that it is known as a “Line Stone.” It requires no stand or basin; it stands alone as a compelling viewing stone, offering satisfaction without any adornment, wherever it is placed. Furthermore, the subtle interplay of blue and red hues evokes the Taeguk pattern, instilling a sense of comfort in those who behold it.
