남근석(男根石)

다산(多産)과 풍요를 기원(祈願)하였던 고대 사회에서는 그 염원(念願)을 성기(性器) 숭배 사상으로 나타내었다. 아울러 강(强)한 성(性)은 사회적, 정치적 힘의 상징이기도 하였다. 선사 시대부터 현대에 이르기까지 사상으로서 그 생명력을 유지하고 있는 것은 남자 성기에서 생명체를 탄생시킨다는 생래적 발상에서 비롯된 것이라고 학자들은 말한다. 남근석을 유달리 좋아했던 우리 민족은 재앙을 극복하고 복을 불러 온다는 “제재초복(除災招福)” 사상과 자손 번성, 풍요를 기원하며 신앙화(信仰化) 되었다고 한다. 남근석(男根石)으로서 이 작품은 대작으로 그 크기나 남성으로서 힘의 표현이 그야말로 생생하고 압도적이다. 수석으로서 비교할 수 있는 작품을 아직까지 본 적이 없다.
In ancient societies that prayed for fertility and abundance, worship of genitalia was common, and virility was seen as a symbol of social and political power. Scholars suggest that this concept has persisted from prehistoric times to today, deeply rooted in the belief that male genitalia are a source of life. The Korean people, who held a particular reverence for phallic stones, religiously embraced them with the belief in the idea of “removing disaster and attracting fortune,” venerating these stones as symbols of prosperity and thriving progeny. This phallic stone is a significant piece, distinguished by its size and its powerful expression of masculine strength, both vivid and overwhelming. To this day, I have yet to see another viewing stone that rivals its stature.
음부석(陰部石)

이 작품은 바다 돌로서 오래전에 이미 억(億)대 수석으로 소개된 바 있었던 걸작이다. 생명을 잉태하는 궁(宮)으로서 그 상징성과 의미가 있다. 그 크기도 남근석과 환상의 짝이라 할 수 있는 대작이다. 세부적인 표현 또한 설명할 필요가 없다.
This piece, shaped from a sea stone, is a masterpiece previously recognized as an invaluable viewing stone, estimated to be worth hundreds of millions in Korean won. It symbolizes and represents a sanctuary of life conception. Its considerable size makes it a perfect match for the phallic stone, forming an extraordinary pair. The detail in its expression is so vivid that it speaks for itself and requires no further explanation.
환희(歡喜)
산지: 괴산 (자연석)

이 작품은 승리의 세레모니(ceremony)를 보는 것 같아 “환희(歡喜)”라고 이름 지었다. 살다가 이런 순간이 얼마나 있었는지? 천상(天上)의 본향(本鄕)에 입성했을 때 그 환희는 어떤 것일까를 생각해 본다.
This piece is named “Elation” as it evokes the feeling of a victory celebration. How often do I experience such moments of elation in my life? It makes me wonder what the joy will be like if I enter the heavenly homeland.
자연(自然)의 참맛 – 초코석

수석인들이 초코석이라 부르는 이 돌의 학명(學名)은 지질학을 전공하지 않은 필자로서는 정확히 모른다. 하지만 이 돌이 자연석이라는 것에 대해서는 경탄할 만하고 자연의 오묘함을 느낄 수 있는 것은 분명하다고 본다. 초콜릿은 인간이 겪어야 했던 몇 안 되는 충격 가운데 하나일 것이다. 달콤쌉쌀한 맛과 그 부드러움, 그리고 매혹적인 색의 유혹, 더 나아가 파이(pie)에 덧씌워 공전(空前)의 힛트 상품인 초코파이까지, 초콜릿의 이미지가 그대로 전해지는 이 돌은 초코석으로서는 최고의 작품으로 많은 사람들의 관심과 애간장을 녹였었는데 운 좋게 필자의 손에 들어왔다.
I am not a geologist and do not know the scientific name of this stone, but viewing stone enthusiasts often call this “Choco Stone.” It is, however, truly remarkable that as a natural stone it captures the wonders of nature. Chocolate itself has been one of the few profound delights humanity has ever encountered. This piece of stone perfectly captures the essence of chocolate, with its bittersweet flavor, smooth texture, enticing color, and its associations with Choco Pie, one of the most popular snacks in Korea. Considered one of the finest Choco Stones, it has garnered keen interest and affection from viewing stone lovers, and I am lucky to have it in my collection.
